FAQ section
The primary software for projection mapping and content in this course is TouchDesigner. You can use the free version, which allows you to follow along with everything, but note that the output resolution is limited to 1280x1280.
For content creation, I also provide tips and tricks on After Effects and ComfyUI (an AI-powered tool for generating visuals). However, these are optional—you can complete the course without them.
The course also includes a photogrammetry lesson to create 3D models from real-world objects. This uses:
RealityCapture (Windows-only, best quality)
RealityScan (Mobile app for iOS/Android, slightly lower quality but still usable)
Both RealityCapture and RealityScan are free to use.
Most of the course content runs on a standard PC or Mac, but here are some specific requirements:
TouchDesigner: Runs on most modern Windows PCs and Macs. A dedicated GPU improves performance.
ComfyUI (AI-based content creation):
Windows: Requires an NVIDIA GPU. AMD GPUs are not supported.
Mac: Requires Apple Silicon.
VRAM Requirement: At least 12GB VRAM recommended for smooth AI processing.
Photogrammetry (RealityCapture & RealityScan):
RealityCapture (Best quality): Windows-only
RealityScan (Mobile alternative): Available for iOS & Android.
For learning purposes, any projector can be used, (only ultra short-throw projectors are not recommended). You don’t need an expensive or high-end projector to follow the course. However, for real-world applications, brighter projectors may be required, depending on the environment and surface.
Yes! This course covers both 2D and 3D projection mapping.
2D Mapping: Basic projection onto flat surfaces.
3D Mapping: Techniques for mapping onto 3D objects and structures.
However, multi-projector setups are not specifically covered.
No prior experience is required. This course is suitable for beginners, but familiarity with digital tools (e.g., TouchDesigner, After Effects) can be helpful.
Yes! The course includes various presets and project files for both projection mapping and content creation. This makes it easier for you to experiment and create your own visuals.
No. You can complete the course using free versions of all the software:
TouchDesigner (Free version is enough)
ComfyUI (Free and open-source)
RealityScan or RealityCapture (Free)
After Effects (Only needed for optional content; has a free trial)
Yes, but with some limitations:
ComfyUI requires Apple Silicon.
RealityCapture (photogrammetry) is Windows-only, but Mac users can use RealityScan (mobile app).
No, this course focuses on single-projector setups.
